Mellette TURBEVILLE — Olive Eugenia Coker Mellette, Turbeville, joined her late husband, Miller Herbert Mellette, Jr., in eternal life Dec. 22, 2008. Mrs. Mellette, born in Hebron Community, Williamsburg County, SC, was the daughter of the late Joseph Carlton Coker and Olive Eugenia Gibbons Coker. She was Salutatorian, Class of 1950, at Hebron High School. Mrs. Mellette is survived by children: Eddie H. (Sue) Mellette, Columbia, Joseph M. Mellette, Sr., Turbeville, Ann M. (Bill) Hall, Longs and Janet M. (Johnny) Calder, Conway. Others include grandchildren, “Bess” Mellette, Columbia, Joe Mellette, Jr., Florence, Miller Mellette, III, Turbeville, Thad Hall and Ryan Hall, Longs, Jarrett Calder and Joshua Calder, Columbia, Jennifer Calder, Conway; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave) Day, Columbia, and Brian (Ladonna) Armstrong, Aiken. Seven great-grandchildren survive. Surviving sisters include Willie Bell (Carroll) Lane, Kingstree, Eula (Buster) Watkins, Holly Hill, Annie (A.C.) Morris, New Zion, Frances (David) Ray, Hemingway, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mellette cherished her role as wife and mother, and assisted Mr. Mellette in the operation of their business, Wingard & Coker. Olive, a devoted Christian, served as a loving and supporting spouse, worked tirelessly for her children’s education and development, and reveled in her role as grandmother. A member of Horse Branch Free Will Baptist Church, Turbeville, Mrs. Mellette was a member of the Sunday School, and formerly, the Winnie Vause Auxiliary Circle. Funeral services at the church will be held at 2:00 p.m., Dec. 26. Reverend Jakie Creech will officiate. Visitors will be received in the Fellowship Hall prior to the service. Memorials are suggested to benefit The Free Will Baptist Home for Children, Turbeville. Floyd Funeral Home, Olanta, is coordinating funeral arrangements. | |
