Frances Baker King, 95, widow of Jesse Willard King, died peacefully on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011, at National Healthcare Center of Sumter. Born in St. Charles, she was a daughter of the late Robert Benjamin and Lillian Prescott Baker. Mrs. King was a member of First Church of God, where she had been awarded the lifetime service award in honor of more than a half-century of faithful service as a Sunday school teacher and servant of God. Surviving are two sons, C. Leon King and wife, Angeline, of Sumter and Glenn A. King and wife, Gayle, of Columbia; a sister, Jenelle Baker Amerson and husband, Wilson, of Sumter; three grandchildren, Kimberly King Hutchison, David A. King and Stacey King Howell; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Church of God with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Burial will follow in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the service at 2 p.m. Sunday at the church and at other times at the home of her son, 15 Haile St., Sumter. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of National Healthcare Center for their kind and compassionate care of Mrs. King.
