Dorothy Workman Wilson BISHOPVILLE - Ms. Dorothy Workman Wilson passed away Tuesday afternoon in Providence Hospital in Columbia. Born September 29, 1922, in Westville, SC, she was a daughter of the late Victor N. and Pearl H. Workman. She was the oldest of four children born to the couple. She was predeceased by her husband, L.L. Wilson, Sr.; and sisters, Leila W. Anthony and Evelyn W. Waynick. She graduated from Winthrop College in 1941 with degrees in English and Music. She taught school for seventeen years in the Kershaw, Charleston, and Lee County school systems. She is survived by her son, L.L. "Buddy" Wilson, Jr. and daughter, S. Pamela Wilson, both of Columbia; and beloved sister, Margie W. Gay of West Columbia. Also surviving are two grandsons, Kemp Duncan Wilson, Sr. and wife, Kaley, and V. Hunter Wilson, all of Columbia; two great-grandsons, Kemp Duncan Wilson, Jr. and Quade Hampton Wilson; and many nieces and nephews. Service will be held Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. at Bishopville Presbyterian Church where Ms. Wilson was a member for over sixty-five years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church at 215 S. Main St., Bishopville, SC 29010. Her legacy rests not with what she had, but with what she had given over the years to her family, friends, and students. Meeting a former student always brought a smile to her face. The family wishes to express gratitude and appreciation to the caring staff at National Health Care Parklane, the nurses in the ICU at Providence Hospital, to Dr. Paula Belmar and her staff at Primary Care Elgin, and to Ms. Lucille March, personal caregiver. Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home of Bishopville is in charge of the arrangements.
