Charles Herbert Kolb, 91, husband of Dorothy Currie Kolb, died Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2005, at the Hospice House in Greenwood. Born in Pinewood, he was a son of the late Silas Benjamin Kolb and the late Lena Barwick Kolb. Mr. Kolb was a member and elder of First Baptist Church, previously held various offices in the Sunday school department, and was a former deacon. He was an independent businessman for a number of years before becoming a partner in the Rose Myrtle Dairy Co. along with his brother-in-law, William Currie. He later retired as a branch manager for the Sumter and Florence areas for Coburg Dairies. Mr. Kolb was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. Survivors besides his wife include a son, Dr. C. Allen Kolb and his wife, Cheryl, of Abbeville; a daughter, Kathy K. Smith and her husband, Clyde, of Knoxville, Tenn.; and four grandchildren, Alison and Stephen Kolb, both of Abbeville, Chad Smith of Texas, and Elysa S. Tuten of Charleston. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the First Baptist Church with the Rev. Ryan Pack and the Rev. Charles Clanton officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery. Pallbearers will be William Kolb, Jack Kolb, Jimmy Harley, D.L. Barwick, Charles Barwick and Raymond Barwick. Honorary pallbearers will be Bobby Hannah and Ed Davis; the elders of First Baptist Church, Bill Shuler, Hugh Knight and L. D. Rivers; the deacons of First Baptist Church; and the Baraca Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
