Gen. Hugh McFaddin McLaurin III, died Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025, at her home. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Septimus Augustus Harvin and Mary Ellen Suber Harvin. Mrs. McLaurin was a member and past elder of Wedgefield Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Les Trente, The Sumter Assembly, former president of the Junior Welfare League, former president of the Stateburg Literary & Musical Society and the Sumter Art Association. Surviving are two daughters, Mary Louise McLaurin Jones (Wade) and Virginia McLaurin Mota (Dan), and a son, Hugh McFaddin McLaurin IV (Leigh); grandchildren, Virginia McLaurin Cupstid (Brandon), Wade Hampton Jones IV (Barnwell), Michael McLaurin Mota (Courtnie), Joseph Cooper Mota, Majid Amir Corbett (Caroline), Hugh McFaddin McLaurin V, Bentham Edmunds McLaurin and Austin Lucas McLaurin; great-grandchildren, Henry McLaurin Cupstid, William Harvin Cupstid, Wade Hampton Jones V, Danielle Claire Mota and Virginia Elliott Corbett; a brother, Septimus Augustus Harvin Jr. (Betty); a sister-in-law, Jennie Linn McLaurin Duffie (John); and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, in Wedgefield Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jody Foster and the Rev. Rodney Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Wedgefield Presbyterian Church Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends in the church Fellowship Hall following the service. Memorials may be made to Wedgefield Presbyterian Church, P. O. Box 36, Wedgefield, SC 29168, or to Thornwell Home for Children, 302 S. Broad Street, Clinton, SC 29325.
