Excerpts are included here to demonstrate a kinship connection between Daniel Singleton and Phillip Singleton, Orange Co., VA, and the Robert Singleton family of Gloucester Co., VA who moved to Sumter, SC, with Robert's brother COL Matthew Singleton and about whom several messages have been posted by COL George Lightfoot Singleton (GSingle556@@aol.com). Conveyances recorded in early Orange County, VA demonstrate that Daniel and Phillip Singleton, possibly sons of Christopher Singleton b. 1699, Isle of Wight, England and later, of Gloucester Co., VA, purchased land adjacent to each other in Orange: ODB 14 p. 206 29 Dec. 1766 Philip Singleton of Bedford Co. to Nicholas Jones of Orange for 9£30 for tract whereon Nicholas Jones now lives cont. 100 acres adj. Daniel Singleton, Jacob Clayton Charles Hutcherson, purchased by Philip Singleton of James Haley being part of a larger tract of James Haley and his brother Edward Haley by a patent in their names. wit. Richard Crittenden Webb, Robert Lancaster, Daniel Singleton. ODB 12 p. 321 I John Bell of St. Thomas Parish Orange Co. and Sarah his wife for 9£100 make over to Daniel Singleton of same 208 acres adj. John Shackleford, Mine Run, James Mitchell, Phillip Singleton, George Bledsoe. 26 Feb. 1756. [Delvd to Manoah Singleton 27 Jan. 1767] ODB 15 p. 99 7 Jan. 1769 Philip Singleton of Bedford Co. and Mary his wife to Daniel Singleton of Orange for 9£15 assign 80 acres adj. John Crittenden Webb, Daniel Singleton, Nicholas Jones, Jacob Clay. wit. Daniel Singleton, William Lancaster, George Bledsoe. NOTE: Daniel Singleton first appears in Orange Co. in 1737 as a young man with one tithable. Phillip Singleton purchases land in Orange Co. in 1741. This land is the 100 acre Haley tract mentioned above, on Mine Run in Orange, recorded 25 June 1741. Phillip Singleton died intestate in Bedford Co., VA in 1775.
