| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina SHEILA DAVIS CARR Posted Tuesday, February 7, 2023 6:00 am Sheila Davis Carr, 85, died on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2023, in her room at Covenant Place in Sumter. She was born on March 2, 1937, in Brooklyn, New York, the eldest daughter of the late Ernest and Rosetta Hey. She was predeceased by her two husbands, Dr. Samuel Perry Davis of 49 years, who she met in Charleston during nursing and medical school; and Phillip Carr of 10 years from Stuart, Florida. Mrs. Carr was a member of Grace Baptist Church for more than 40 years. She practiced nursing until opting to be a full-time mother of three sons. After raising three active boys, she turned her passions to the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Children of the American Revolution (CAR) historical and patriotic organizations. Sheila was an active member of many DAR and CAR chapters and was an Honorary National Society DAR Vice President General, Honorary South Carolina State DAR Regent and an Honorary Sumter's Home Chapter DAR Chapter Regent. Surviving are her three sons, Samuel Perry Davis Jr. of Fort Mill, Richard Leslie Davis Sr. and wife, Lisa, of Norfolk, Virginia, and Gordon Taylor Davis of Sumter; three grandchildren, Richard Davis Jr., Sarah Davis and Danielle Davis; two sisters, Denise Haag and husband, Mike, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Susan Timmerman and husband, Mike, of Dallas, Texas. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Sumter Cemetery, presided by Dr. Steve Williams. The family will also receive friends in the fellowship hall at Grace Baptist Church following the graveside service. Memorials in lieu of flowers may be made to Grace Baptist Church, 219 W.
