GREEN Posted Thursday, January 5, 2017 6:00 am Turner Augustus "Gus" Green, 87, husband of Barbara Copeland Green, died on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2017, at his home. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Thomas S. and Lillian Player Green. Mr. Green was a member of Turbeville Southern Methodist Church and attended First Southern Methodist Church in Sumter. He retired from the Sumter Fire Department after 30 years and after serving as fire chief for 10 years. He served in several other positions with the City of Sumter following his retirement. He was a member of Fidelity Lodge No. 394 AFM in Turbeville and the American Legion Post No. 132 in Turbeville. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. Survivors include his wife of 62 years; three children, Thomas M. Green (Christine) of Savannah, Georgia, Robert A. Green (Beth) of Duncan and Nan G. Weeks (Cray) of Sumter; seven grandchildren, Turner Green, Thomas Green, Anna Sams Green, Millie Malone (William), McCray Weeks, Mason Weeks and Madison Weeks; two great-grandchildren, Charlie Malone and Lucy Malone; and a sister, Elizabeth Balint of Columbia. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Alton Green and Robert Alvin Green. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Turbeville Southern Methodist Church with the Rev. Billy Griffith, the Rev. Ellison Evans and Bobby G. Baker officiating. Burial will be in the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Turner Green, Thomas Green, McCray Weeks, Mason Weeks and William Malone, and close friend, Charlton Watts. Honorary pallbearers will be the firefighters that served with him and the Men's Sunday School Class of Turbeville Southern Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Turbeville Southern Methodist Church and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Eastern Conference Camp Ministries of the Southern Methodist Church, 203 McClendon St., Lamar, SC 29069.
