Holladay. jkh Date Published: September 23, 2008 HELEN HODGE Helen Baker Gowdy Hodge, 75, wife of Hubert Douglas Hodge, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at her home. Born in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Alpheus J. and Annie Lee Coulter Baker. Mrs. Hodge was a member of Providence Baptist Church and was retired from Tuomey Regional Medical Center. She was a past Worthy Matron in the Order of the Easter Star. Survivors besides her husband include two daughters, Janet Lynn Gowdy Jones (Danny) and Brenda Gayle Gowdy, both of Sumter; a special granddaughter she reared, Heather Marks Haines (Bill) of Rio Rancho, N.M.; a grandson, Caleb Jones of Sumter; a special niece she reared, Judy Ann Baker Snidar (Richard) of Lexington; three stepdaughters, Wanda Hodge Duke (David) and Priscilla Hodge Baker (Dallas), both of Manning, and Robin Hodge Dollard (Ernie) of Sumter; three stepsons, Chris Hodge of Sumter, Danny Hodge of Swansea and Eddie Hodge of Honea Path; three brothers, Dallas Baker (Shirley), Francis " Buddy" Baker (Barbara) and Jimmy L. Baker (Donna), all of Sumter; four sisters, Mary Louise Clark, Annette Sigmon, Lois Rogers and Juanita Davis (Junior), all of Sumter; and a number of nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Harold Green officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the home. Memorials may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 2445 Old Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29154, or to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 433 Old Manning Road, Sumter, SC 29154. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home & Crematorium, 515 Miller Road, Sumter, is in charge of arrangements. Holladay-Hurst Mr. and Mrs. Dallas Baker Jr. of Manning and Robert W. Holladay of Sumter announce the engagement of their daughter, Courtney J. Holladay of Sumter, to Justin N. Hurst of Sumter, son of the late Carl Raymond Hurst of Norman, Okla., and Angela H. Kaldro of Sumter. The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Ann Hanvey of Honea Path, H.D. Hodge and the late Mrs. Helen Hodge of Sumter, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Holladay of Pinewood, and the great-granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.D. Hodge of Sumter and the late Mr. and Mrs. William B. Holladay of Manning. She attended Lakewood High School and graduated from Central Carolina Technical College. She is employed by Wesmark Ambulatory Surgery Center as a surgical tech. The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Hurst of Temple City, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Donald Price of Summerton and Mr. and Mrs. John Miller of Sumter. He graduated from Sumter High School. He is the owner of Top Cut Tree Service of Sumter. The wedding is planned for Oct. 8, 2011, at Mill Creek Park, Pinewood.
