News - Obituaries Saturday, Apr. 18, 2009 Eloise Plyler MYRTLE BEACH — Mrs. Eloise Simmons Plyler, wife of the late Justin Whitaker Plyler, of Ocean Blvd., went to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday afternoon, April 15, 2009, surrounded by her family. Mrs. Plyler was born April 25, 1919, in Horry County, SC, a daughter of the late Judge William and Hettie Simmons. She was predeceased by her daughter, Kay Plyler Brandon. Surviving are her son, Justin Avery Plyler and his wife, Susan Womack Plyler, of Myrtle Beach; her granddaughter, Beverly Kay Brandon Nichols and her husband, W. Robert Nichols, of Dallas, TX; her three grandsons, Justin Simmons Plyler and his wife, Tara Plyler, of Washington, D.C., Henry Jason Plyler of New York, NY, Weldon Scott Brandon and his wife, Lisa Brandon, of Myrtle Beach and her great-grandchildren, Weldon Hunter Brown, Shellie Haywood Brandon, Haley Kay Brandon and Hannah Caroline Plyler. Mrs. Plyler’s family roots in Horry County date back to 1776. She and her husband founded one of the Myrtle Beach area’s first attractions, the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove in 1946 and owned and operated three of Myrtle Beach’s original guesthouses, The Coast Inn, The Tuck-em Inn and the Just Inn. Mrs. Plyler was a matriarch in the community, participating in many community and civic projects. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach and loved being part of the Chicora Book Club and the Dunes Club Lady Niners. The family will receive friends from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Saturday at McMillan-Small Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Myrtle Beach with the Rev. Bruce Crawford officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service in Ocean Woods Memorial Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 500 4th Ave. N., Myrtle Beach, SC 29577 or to Brookgreen Gardens, PO Box 3368, Pawleys Island, SC 29585.
