Walker Gladys King Walker, 85, widow of James W. Walker, died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 11, 1926, in Sumter, daughter of the late Joseph Henry King and the late Mary McCullough Black King. Gladys graduated from Summerton High School and was a member of Sumter Bible Church, also known as The Little White Church around the corner. Surviving her is a sister, Dorothy Kennedy; a daughter, Dianne Shuping (Jimmie); three grandchildren, Deirdre McCullough Shuping Bryson (Greg), James Reid Shuping (Audrey) and Ryan O'Neal Shuping (Caroline); and seven great-grandchildren, Cooper Bryson, Ty Bryson, Emerson Shuping, Holden Shuping, Court Shuping, Amelia Shuping and Gavin Shuping. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Cemetery in Summerton, with the Rev. Drew Choate and Rev. Bobby Partin officiating. The family will receive friends after the service and other times at the home of her daughter. Memorials may be made to the National Health Care Activities Fund in honor of residents, 1018 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC 29150. The family would like to thank the staff of National Health Care for their compassion and care during her stay.
