| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina ESTHER POWELL MIMS Posted Tuesday, April 18, 2023 6:00 am Esther "Tina" Powell Mims, 86, widow of Gleaton Edward "Ed" Mims, died Sunday, April 16, 2023, at Prisma Health Tuomey in Sumter. Born Aug. 22, 1936, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late J.C. Powell Sr. and Viola Degarhart Powell. She was a member of Midland Pentecostal Holiness Church and attended Crosswell Baptist Church. She served as the office manager at Cover Manufacturing for many years. Survivors include two children, Derrick Mims (Joye) and Sharon Ellis (Leonard), both of Sumter; four grandchildren, Rick Mims (Katie), Amber Watson (Kell), Jessica Fralick (Jeffrey) and Dillon Ellis (Brandi); five great-grandchildren, Kinsley Connor, Grayson Connor, Paxton Mims, Mary Ellis Fralick and Everleigh Kate Ellis; two sisters, Dorothy Hickson of Bishopville and Hilda Krieger (Don) of Sumter; one brother, George Powell (Frances) of Columbia; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by seven siblings, J.C. Powell Jr., Daniel T. Powell, Margaret Price, Lewis A. "Louie" Powell, John Powell, Beatrice Lamkin and Clara Brink. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Charles Owens. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rick Mims, Kell Watson, Jeff Fralick Sr., Jeffrey Fralick Jr., Dillon Ellis and Cliff Derreth. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of Derrick and Joye Mims, 740 Lakewood Drive, and the home of Sharon and Leonard Ellis, 492 Cedarwood Drive.
