S. 521 and U. S. 15 resulted in the death of a Sumter County woman, according to Lance Cpl. Josef Robinson of the State Highway Patrol. • Sumter County Coroner Verna Moore refused to release the name of the deceased on Thursday. • At 12:10 a.m., a 1987 regular cab Ford pickup driven by David Nunnery, 53, of 1065 Craig Road was traveling north on U. S. 15 and had a green light from the traffic signal when he struck a 1999 Pontiac Bonneville that had pulled into the intersection headed west on U. S. 521, according to Robinson. Esther J. Trimnal, 78, of 109 Vernon Drive, who was driving the Bonneville, failed to yield and was hit by Nunnery’s vehicle on the driver’s side, Robinson said. • Trimnal was charged with failure to yield right-of-way. • According to Robinson, the impact caused Trimnal’s vehicle to accelerate and strike a sign at a convenience store. Trimnal and a female passenger in Trimnal’s vehicle were transported to Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Trimnal was later transported to Palmetto Health Richland in Columbia (South Carolina). The passenger, who was not wearing a seat belt, Robinson said, died Monday from injuries sustained in the collision. • Both Trimnal and Nunnery were wearing seat belts, he said. • “I don’t have the information on it. The doctor ruled it natural, so I don’t know what the deal is on the thing right now,” Moore said, referring to the woman who died. of Sumter, South Carolina Esther Trimnal Esther Catherine Jones Trimnal, 84, widow of Harley McSwenney Trimnal Jr., died Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at a local nursing facility. Born in Sumter County, she was a daughter of the late Julius Gamble Jones and Annie Newman Jones. Mrs. Trimnal was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church. She retired from Pioneer LTD after 40 years of service. Survivors include five children, Harley "Sweeney" Trimnal (Sandy), Charles Trimnal, Mac Trimnal and Sherry Truesdale (Ronnie), all of Sumter, and Jerry Trimnal of Missoula, Mont., and Mary Chambers of Williamston; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Cary Russell and Estelle Reed, both of Sumter, and Annie Grant of Florence. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Sammy Jones and Julius Jones; and two sisters, Lilla Allen and Bessie Grissett. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. John Bauknight and Jerry Watson officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tommy Brown, Ronnie Truesdale Jr., Joey Hutson, Dylan Trimnal, Joseph Hutson and William Russell Jr. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of NHC Heathcare of Sumter for the kind and compassionate care during this time.
