| HIST | of Sumter, South Carolina Dorothy K. Kennedy Dorothy Gwendolyn King Kennedy, age 91, beloved wife of 59 years to the late Rembert Kennedy Sr., died on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, at her residence. Born on Aug. 6, 1920, in Summerton, Mrs. Kennedy was a daughter of the late Joseph Henry and Mary McCullough Black King. She graduated from Summerton High School and went on to work for the Sumter County Department of Social Services, where she retired after 29 years. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church. She is survived by her three children, Nancy K. Huett and her husband, Edward, of Mt. Pleasant, and Carol K. Kennedy and Rembert J. Kennedy Jr., all of Sumter; three grandchildren, Elizabeth Huett of Savannah, Ga., Dustin Kennedy of Sumter and Sandra Huett Burke of Mt. Pleasant; and two great-grandchildren, Claire and Brandon Burke. She was preceded in death by her three sisters, Virginia Beatyy, Mary Ann Bilton and Gladys Walker. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. today at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery with Dr. Mark Durrett officiating. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 9 W. Calhoun St., Sumter, SC 29150. The family would like to thank Cyntoria Murphy and the staff of Amedysis Hospice for their compassionate care.
