Welsh, died on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Lexington Medical Center. Born on March 31, 1955, in Sumter, he was a son of Christine Watson Welsh and the late George B. Welsh Jr. He was a member of Calvary Church of the Nazarene, where he served as a board member and as the Men's Sunday School teacher for more than 20 years. He retired from Sumter Coatings after 45 years in the paint and coatings industry. Steve was a loving and devoted son, husband, dad and papa. He was an avid teacher and lover of history and music, but most of all he loved spending time with his family. Survivors include his wife of 44 years; two sons, Jared Steven Welsh (Heather) and Taylor Evan Welsh (Brittany); five grandchildren, Alyssa O. McKenzie (J.J.), Quinn M. Welsh, Lily Marie Welsh, Gracen I. Welsh and Westlyn E. Welsh; a great-grandchild, Oliver J. McKenzie; siblings, Karen W. Newbould (Scott), Bryan W. Welsh (LaWanda) and Pam W. Hord (Rodney); and numerous loving and devoted nieces, nephews, grand-nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, George B. Welsh Sr. and Evelyn C. Welsh; maternal grandparents, Woodrow J. Watson and Oleta J. Watson; an infant son; and an infant granddaughter. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday at Calvary Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Arthur Sharpe officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Nazarene Church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Sidney Holland, Zachery Crawford, Corey Brown, Edward Andrews, Billy Price and Alan Crawford. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 11679 Pinewood Highway, Manning. Memorials may be made to Calvary Church of the Nazarene, 4235 Nazarene Church Road, Sumter, SC 29154.
