| HIST | At the age of 6, he moved in with Andrew Franklin (the brother of his father) and Mamie Morris, where he remained until he was drafted. of Sumter, South Carolina Marvin D. Morris Marvin Durant Morris, 83, husband of June Avin Morris, died Thursday, April 19, 2012, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born Oct. 22, 1928, in New Zion, he was a son of the late Talmadge Legree Morris and Lettie Lee Stewart Morris. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family and friends. He attended Jefferson Road Freewill Baptist Church and Deep Creek Pentecostal Holiness Church until his health failed. He was a carpenter by trade and was a Korean War veteran. At the age of 6, he moved in with Andrew Franklin and Mamie Morris, where he was reared along with their children, Donald, Frankie, Billy and Presley Morris, and Ava Justice. He remained with them until he was drafted. Survivors include his wife, of Manning; a daughter, Joyce Taylor (Joey) of Manning; a son, Ronnie Dale Morris (Mary) of Sumter; a brother, Van Morris (Patricia) of Sumter; a sister, Betty Jean Morrison of Goldsboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Terrell Barrett Duke (Amie) of Blythewood and Clinton Odell Duke of Columbia; step-grandchildren, Beth Giddens (Robbie), Matt Taylor (Joanne) and Brent Taylor; great-grandchildren, Ashlynn Mallory Duke and Caydon Barrett Duke, both of Blythewood; step-great-grandchildren, Haley Erickson and Emma Taylor, both of Manning; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Talmadge Ishmael "Tim" Morris, Robert Legrand "Bobby" Morris and Elvin Morris. He was loved dearly and will be sorely missed by family and friends. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service at the gravesite and other times at 1343 Auburn Drive, Manning. The family would like to thank East Palmetto Ambulance Service, Southern Care Hospice, Covenant Place and Tuomey Regional Medical Center for their service and kindness to our family during his illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clarendon Animal Shelter, 5079 Alex Harvin Hwy., Manning, SC 29102 or to a charity of one's choice.
