Bessie Rodgers Hodge, age 66, beloved wife of 49 years to Robert Lee Hodge, died Thursday, May 21, 2009.
She was born in Sumter, a daughter of the late Jim J. Rodgers and Callie Pritchard Rodgers. She was a truly loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and homemaker. She loved to cook, can, the great outdoors and she loved to hunt and fish. She was a president and life member of the Wildwood Flower Hunting Club. She was a member of the Providence Baptist Church.
Surviving in addition to her husband are: two sons, Robert L. Hodge Jr. and his wife, Michael, and Timothy Darren Hodge and his girlfriend Renee, all of Sumter; two daughters, Linda Marie Moore Patrice and her husband, Robert, of Houston, Texas, and Brenda Ann Moore Cockerill and her husband, John, of Sumter; three brothers, Jim Franklin "Buddy" Rodgers, Willis Rodgers and Robert Dean Rodgers, all of Sumter; one sister, Mary Lou Rodgers Griffith of Sumter; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Neil Hodge officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Fritz McDonald, Harvey McDonald, Stacey McDonald, Todd McDonald, Robert Rodgers, Andy Thames and Jeffery Thames.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bullock Funeral Home.
