  HIST	at death- he had 11 great-grandchildren Douglas R. York Douglas R. York, 93, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 1, 2011. Born in May 1918 in New Jersey, he was a son of the late Alfred and Mary Tyler York. Mr. York was a senior executive with H.K. Porter Co. for 23 years and Accurate Bushing for 5 year, both in New Jersey. He was a member and chairman of the Society of Carbide Engineers as well as a member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He started and operated, with his son, York Alarms Co. in Cranford, N.J. Douglas York played the saxophone and had his own big band orchestra in the 1940's with Buddy Rich as his drummer. As a hobby, he was an accomplished cabinet maker, building furniture for family and friends. Mr. and Mrs. York moved from Cranford, N.J., to Sumter in 1985. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Milford I. York; daughters, Judy Bell and Donna York-Monestere; grandchildren, Douglas Bell, Alex Bell, Sheri Richelo, Elizabeth York, Christine York, Shawn Mulligan and April Candelaria; 11 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Katherine Hennessy. Douglas York was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert York; grandson, Robert D. York; and his brother, Raymond York. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home, 515 Miller Road, Sumter, SC 29150. A private family burial will be held Sunday in the Providence Baptist Church cemetery in Sumter. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd., Suite L, Clemson, SC 29261.
