| HIST | of Columbia, South Carolina Gayle C. King COLUMBIA -- On March 19, 2012, having no further need for her earthly, disease-ridden body, Gayle Cantey King of Columbia, wife of Glenn A. King, emerged victorious over the cancer that had plagued her for so long, and slipped peacefully into the presence of her Heavenly Father. For if God be for us, who can be against us? You would probably find her now surrounded by little children, teaching them Bible stories, as she always loved to do at First Presbyterian Church. She was born Jan. 27, 1950, in Kingstree, a daughter of Betty Parker Cantey and the late Shelby Gordon Cantey. A 1971 graduate of the University of South Carolina, she enjoyed a 38-year career at AgFirst Farm Credit Banks, retiring in March 2010. It was the only job she ever had. She is survived by her husband of Columbia; daughter, Stacey K. Howell (Adam); beloved granddaughter, Cally Grace Howell; mother; brother, Dr. Larry D. Cantey (Pamm), all of Charlotte; brother-in-law, C. Leon King (Angeline) of Sumter; and scores of other relatives and friends who loved her so dearly. The family wishes to thank the employees of Palmetto Health Richland Cancer Center, S.C. Oncology Associates, National Health Care, and Caris Hospice. They all exhibited compassionate and professional care for Gayle and her family. Also, we thank the many family members and friends who visited, sat with her, and shared stories of kindness Gayle had bestowed on them throughout her life. She will be missed by all of us. Celebration services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church. The family will be happy to receive visitors in Jackson Hall at the church immediately following the service. Interment will be in Bush River Memorial Gardens, Old Bush River Road, Irmo. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. The elders and deacons of First Presbyterian Church are asked to be honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Care Team Fund, 1324 Marion St., Columbia, SC 29201.
