He bought his Alice Drive and Broad Street property around 1955. He purchased a one-acre parcel at that corner for $5,000.00, when Alice Drive was a dirt road and Broad Street had two lanes. He was a Batesburg/Leesville (South Carolina) native who came to Sumter (South Carolina) from Green Cove Springs, Florida, to serve in the Civilian Conservation Corps. “Mr. O.
