DEWEY E. SIMS
FLORENCE -- Dewey Elbert Sims, 87, of Florence, died Friday, June 5, 2009 after living a full and rich life.
Mr. Sims was born in Olanta, a son of the late Bazil Vinson and Bertha Bailey Sims.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII having served with the 118th Infantry Battalion. He graduated from Clemson University in 1949. He was a member of Peace Free Will Baptist Church where he was a member of the Luther Allen Sunday School Class; a member of the American Legion of Effingham; a member of the Gideon's; and served as Director Emeritus of the Boys Farm in Newberry. He had been a sales representative for Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, a Real Estate Broker and retired from Agrico Chemical Company after 23 years as a sales representative.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Eva Mae Dukes Sims; sons, Dewey Earle (Linda) Sims of Florence and Ted Vinson (Kathy) Sims of Columbia; daughters, Amelia Ann Sims (Gene) Adams of Westminster and Alice Faye Sims (Dan) Thigpen of Darlington; brother, Wilbur Leo Sims of Dilwyn, Va.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Peace Free Will Baptist Church, 897 Third Loop Road, Florence, SC 29505 or to the Boys Farm, PO Box 713, Newberry, SC 29018.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in Peace Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Turbeville Southern Methodist Church Cemetery in Turbeville, directed by Stoudenmire-Dowling Funeral Home.
