PORTER Posted: Sunday, August 10, 2014 6:00 am Edward Daniel Porter, 82, husband of Edna Best Porter, passed into eternal rest on Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center, Sumter. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Robert Austin Porter and the late Carrie Mitchell Porter. He was a member of Crosswell Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years. He was the owner of Porter's Cabinet Shop which he operated for 50 years. Survivors include his wife of 56 years; two sons, Edward D. "Eddie" Porter Jr. (Debbie) of Sumter, and Robert B. "Robbie" Porter (Tonya) of Clemson; and three grandchildren, Robert Austin Porter, Mary Elizabeth Porter and Katherine Abigail Porter. He was preceded in death by six sisters and two brothers. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Crosswell Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Owens officiating. Burial will be in Sumter Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
