Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at Floyd Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the Yates Family Cemetery. Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home. Born in Clarendon County, he was a son of the late Paul Silas and Maggie Marie Johnson Yates. Mr. Yates was a retired millwright in the textile industry, a Mason and member of Seneca Lodge No. 185. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Diane Martin Yates; five brothers, Carrol Yates, Willard Yates Sr., Venroe Yates, Vernon Yates and Clinton Yates; three sisters, Irene Gibbons, Mary Emma Yates and Esterline Yates. Surviving are two daughters, Marie Pierce of Seneca and Anne Reynolds of Olanta; one son, Billy Yates of Olanta; two sisters, Anise Earley of Baltimore, Md., and Stella Phelps of Florence; one brother, Donald Yates of Lake City; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
