They are also looking for a person of interest they wish to interview, a 42-year-old Turbeville woman. Billy Hickman, of 2475 Horse Branch Road was pronounced dead at 11:34 p.m. Friday at Clarendon Memorial Hospital, about an hour after being found by his son Ray Hickman, Clarendon County Coroner Hayes Samuels said Wednesday. The elder Hickman was found at the intersection of U.S. 378 and Sand Hill Road, unconscious in his Dodge Dakota. A Sunday autopsy at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston showed Hickman had cardiomegaly, he said, otherwise known as an enlarged heart. “He had an extremely enlarged heart,” he explained, and noted Hickman had heart bypass surgery about six or seven years ago. “We don’t foresee any foul play,” he said, but the investigation is ongoing, and the exact cause of death is pending results of toxicology tests, which should be available soon. Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett said there was no trauma to Hickman’s body, contrary to rumors that he had been shot or beaten. “The pathologist is telling us there was no absolutely no trauma to the body,” he said, pointing out the pathologist listed the cause of death as undetermined. “Toxicology results should clear it up.” He also said Hickman took nitroglycerin tablets for his heart, which are commonly used to treat chest pain. Hickman was apparently collecting rent on Friday, he said, and possibly had over $2,000 in cash on him, which is one of the reasons many people thought he had been beaten and robbed. The 42-year-old Turbeville woman authorities wish to interview — a tenant of one of Hickman’s rental properties — may have been one of the last people to see him alive, he said. An investigator spent all day Tuesday talking with Hickman’s family, he said, and then went back at midnight and stayed for several more hours in order to get as much information as possible. "We now have warrants for the arrest of Kathy Green Wheeler," said Clarendon County Sheriff Randy Garrett. "She is wanted by our department for the charge of grand larceny and the moving of a body." WHEELER Wheeler, 42, of 1589 Jakes Road, Turbeville, is not suspected in the cause of Billy Hickman's death, Garrett said. "She is a person of interest who has information dealing with Mr. Hickman's death," he said. "The pathologist has determined there was no trauma to the body, but because the toxicology report is not in, he could not give a determined cause of death." Garrett said he believed the toxicology report would be ready within the next couple of weeks. Hickman's body was found at one of his properties -- a pawn shop he formerly ran on U.S. 378 -- at about 10:30 p.m. Jan. 2. "Our investigation has revealed that his body was moved and transported to the location in which he was found," Garrett said. Wheeler is believed to have removed up to $3,000 from Hickman along with his cell phone and prescription pills. Authorities believe Wheeler was one of the last people who saw Hickman before his death. "Our investigation led us to believe that was the last known place he visited," Garrett said. Kathy Green Wheeler, 42, of 1589 Jakes Road, Turbeville, has been charged with grand larceny and the unauthorized removal of a dead body, according to Sheriff Randy Garrett. Bond was set Tuesday night at $10,000 surety bond for the first charge and a $50,000 surety bond for the second. “We don’t believe that she’s a physical threat to herself or anyone else, but we do feel like she’s a flight risk,” said Investigator Rick Elms of the department during the hearing. “Mr. Hickman’s family own her residence and she’s looking at eviction, so we do ask for something that will bring her back to court.” Hickman, 52, was found dead on Jan. 2 at a former business on U.S. 378. Authorities believe Wheeler moved his body there sometime after his death and removed up to $3,000 from his body along with his cell phone and prescription pills. They do not believe she had a part in his death at this time. “Our investigation led us to believe (her home) was the last known place he visited,” Garrett said. “She is a person of interest who has information dealing with Mr. Hickman’s death. Hickman’s sister Betty Lee spoke on behalf of the family at the hearing, asking Judge Shayne Stephens to keep her at the Clarendon County Detention Center until her first court appearance on Jan. 26. “We as a family would like to make sure she can’t get out,” Lee said. “She may not know all the details involving Billy’s death, but we think it’s possible that had she called 911, he might still be alive.” Lee said the family was also worried that if Wheeler were released, she would run again. “They’ve been looking for her for two weeks and she only turned herself in when her picture got out in the media,” Lee said. “We feel like if she gets out, she might not be found and we don’t feel she should be out there in the world where (Billy) can’t.” If convicted, Wheeler faces up to one year in prison for the grand larceny charge and up to 60 days in jail for moving Hickman’s body.
