• Notes

  In 1818, John inherited all of his father's (Eucebius Stone) property. He was left an orphan about 1816 and his maternal grandfather, James Corbett, was appointed his guardian. John first appears in the 1840 Sumter District Census of SC. He has one son under 5 and himself, between 30 and 39; two daughters between 5 and 9, and his wife, between 20 and 29. He also has 13 slaves with 5 people in agriculture. John's neighbors are Jos. C. Weeks, Artis, Pack, and Dempsy Griffin.
