Notes for JOSEPH DAVID HARNAGE: My Dad was a "Never Give Up" man. At the age of 26 he was injured in an auto accident in 1960. He was paralyzed from the shoulder blades down. He endured months of rehabilitative treatments but he never gave up. He could have stayed home and collected disability but for one dollar more a month he went to work for the St. Johns County Sheriff's office in St. Augustine. There he made his way up from dispatcher to Captain of the Communications Dept. He was in charge of the installation of the 911 service. He was selected to represent St. Augustine as a Torchbearer for the 1996 Olympics. He was a guest speaker at the Olympics Ceremony when the "torch" spent the night in St. Augustine. My Dad had it rough but he never gave up and helped many like him over the years to find the courage to persevere. I definitely think of him when I need inspiration. The doctors said he would never live past the age of 35 but he made it to 68 when he passed away in 2002. Cathi Lee 5 Children of BETTY RHODES and JOSEPH HARNAGE are: i.
