| HIST | of Yorktown, Virginia Kenneth R. Rippy Kenneth Ray Rippy, 68, passed away peacefully Thursday, July 14, 2011, with family by his side after a brief battle with cancer. Kenneth (Ken) was born in Timmonsville, S.C., on Dec. 21, 1942, the son of the late James and Lee Corbett. He spent much of his early life in Paxville, S.C., which held a very special place in his heart. Ken graduated from Manning High School. He moved to the Peninsula in 1964 and began his career as a "Bread Man" with Betty Lewis Baking Co., retiring as a supervisor with Mary Jane/Flowers Bakery in 2004. Ken loved working in his garden and yard. He was happiest cooking "Southern style" meals for friends and family making sure no one ever left hungry or without an extra cup of his famous potato salad. He was currently a member of Northside Christian Church, a church he loved very much. He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Wayne Rippy; and in-laws, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hardy Duke III. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol; his son, Todd Rippy (Lisa); his daughter, Tracy Grady (Dennis); grandsons, Nicholas, Zachary and Noah Johnston; granddaughters, Meagan Johnston, Kalyn and Rachel Rippy; sister-in-law, Norma Jean Rippy; brother, Harold Corbett (Nina); sister, Linda Bradley (Steve); sister, Sandra Arnold (Rod); sister-in-law, Mary Jo Vawter (Walt); several nieces, nephews and extended family who meant so much to him. The family will receive friends at Peninsula Funeral Home in Newport News, Va., today from 6 to 8 p.m. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Peninsula Funeral Home by Larry Jones, minister, with burial to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Tracy was first married to Ricky Johnston. Those 4 are Tracy & Ricky's. Ken's other 2 granddaughters are Kaylen and Rachel by his son Todd and his wife Lisa. You have Todd's wife's name as Leslie.
