Centenarian: Mrs. Bonnie S. Moore

Mrs. Bonnie S. Moore, seated at left, was honored on her 100th birthday by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the Dalzell Community Center. Family members as well as friends from the Dalzell community, where she has lived for 97 of her 100 years, attended the birthday party. Two of Mrs. Moore's great-grandchildren, Emma and Jane Cochran, accompanied guests on piano and violin as they sang "Happy Birthday." The party was held on Feb. 19.

Bonnie S. Moore
Bonnie Smith Moore, age 100, widow of Samuel F. Moore Jr., died Saturday, July 9, 2011, at National Health Care in Sumter.
She was born Feb. 23, 1911, in Paxville, a daughter of the late Richard Sidney and Leila Geddings Smith. She was educated in the Sumter County schools, attending the old Dalzell School, and was a member of the first graduating class of Hillcrest High School (now known as Thomas Sumter Academy) in 1929. Ms. Moore was a member of High Hills of Santee Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son, Samuel R. Moore and his wife, Lillian; a son-in-law, Lonnie Jarvis; a sister, Edna S. Hagell; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Moore's daughter, Mary Beth M. Jarvis, died Sunday, July 10, 2011.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Frances Ann Moore Vancil; a great-grandson, Justin V. Tipton; two sisters, Virginia S. Jackson and Mary S. Witherspoon; and two brothers, R.S. Smith and L. Jack Smith.
The family would like to extend a special "Thank You" to Dr. Hugh T. Stoddard Jr. and the staff of National Health Care for their kind and professional care.
A graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Underwood officiating.
