SPENCER Richard H. "Ricky" Spencer, 50, husband of Pat Spencer, died Thursday, May 17, 2007. Born in Sumter, he was a son of Lila Jett Spencer and the late Richard H. Spencer, Sr. He was retired from the Sumter Fire Department and was the recipient of the Carnegie Medal for outstanding heroism. Ricky was an avid race car driver and rode with the Sumter Back Trackers motorcycle club. He attended Bethesda Church of God. Survivors include his wife and mother, both of Sumter; a son, Trey Spencer of Mountain View, Mo.; a brother, Reggie Spencer of Sumter; a special niece, Lesa Evans and her husband, Calvin, of Sumter; and a great-nephew, Drake Evans. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Al Sims officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Calvin Evans, Larry Causey, Dennis Powell, Billy Barrett, Melvin Holloman and Vic Nielsen. Honorary pallbearers will be active and retired members of the Sumter Fire Department. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home of his mother, 4 Beaufain Drive. Memorials may be made to Bethesda Church of God, 2730 Broad St., Sumter, SC 29150, or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.
