| HIST | of Columbia, South Carolina Elaine Gressette Parker Visit Guest Book COLUMBIA - Funeral service for Elaine Gressette Parker, 84, will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011, at First Baptist Church, St. Matthews, with burial in West End Cemetery, St. Matthews. Following the service, the family will greet friends at the home of Vicki and Pat Parker, 1517 Berkeley Road, Columbia. In addition, the family will receive friends from 5 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mrs. Parker died Monday, March 21, 2011. Born July 4, 1926, in Spartanburg, she was a daughter of the late Tatum Wannamaker and Elaine Carson Gressette. She was the eldest grandchild of John Thomas and Rosa Wannamaker Gressette. A graduate of Dreher High School, she attended Converse College and the University of South Carolina. She worked 30 years with the State of South Carolina from which she retired as assistant director of the Columbia Regional Job Service office. A member of First Baptist Church, St. Matthews, she had three loves in her life â€' her family, the animals and the Gamecocks. Her strong support of Carolina was deep-rooted, as her father, Tatum, was captain of the football team and her late husband was a USC graduate. Elaine spent many hours getting volunteers and working concessions for USC baseball games so that the local Animal Protection League animal shelter could be funded. This gave her much enjoyment during her retirement years. She was very proud to be a Gressette and had a deep love for her extended family. She was blessed with two sons and loving daughters-in-law, Richard and Mary Parker of Summerville, and Pat and Vicki Parker of Columbia; grandchildren, Tricia and John Malphrus, Elaine and Brian Behrens, Robyn and Tristen Neville, Patrick G. Parker; three great-grandchildren, Sarah Grace Malphrus, Parker Malphrus and T.J. Behrens; sister, Rosa G. Bresnahan; brother, Tatum W. Gressette Jr. She was predeceased by her former spouse, Billy Ray Parker. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Animal Protection League, P.O. Box 5354, Columbia, SC 29250.
