She graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor of science in biological sciences and from the Medical College of Georgia with a bachelor of science in radiological technology. She is employed as a radiation therapist by Duke University Medical Center, Durham, N.C. The bridegroom-elect is the grandson of Dr. and Mrs. Clarence Carlton Hale and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Melvin Fordham, all of Kinston. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor of arts in chemistry, Campbell University School of Law with a juris doctor, and the University of Miami School of Law with a master of law in taxation.
