"Bobby" Springs (Owens), 73, died Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia. Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Freelon Springs and the late Bessie Louise McGee Owens. Mr. Springs served in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of V.F.W. Post # 3034 in Sumter. Survivors include one brother, Wayne D. Owens of Sumter; two sisters, Betty J. Dannemiller of Aiken, and Kathy Diane Owens of Lewisburg, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Stephen Thomas Owens Jr., David Marion Owens and Richard Franklin "Ricky" Owens; and a sister, Carolyn Prebish. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. James Stewart officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312.
