• Notes

  James is believed by many of his descendants to have come to South Carolina from Virginia with General Thomas Sumter to fight in the Revolutionary War. While nothing has been found to either support or refute this family tradition, several other theories and possibilities are suggested as to when James and other early Bradhams arrived in South Carolina.
