| HIST | of Estill, South Carolina Joseph Harrison Hanna, Sr. January 18, 1928 - April 13, 2018 Joseph Harrison Hanna died on Friday, April 13, 2018. Services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, April 17 at Lawtonville Cemetery, directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hanna, 672 Palmetto Place NE, Estill, South Carolina. Son of Ella Maude Putnam and Leslie Eaddy Hanna, he was born on January 18, 1928 in Hampton County, South Carolina and was raised in Gifford, SC. He graduated from Estill High School and the University of South Carolina. While at USC, he was an active member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received his BS in Business Administration in 1949 from USC. Mr. Hanna followed his granddaddy and father in the forestry business. He retired from Hanna and Hanna, Inc. at the age of 88. He bought, sold and grew trees all his life. Mr. Hanna helped form the Hampton County Republican Party and was very involved in politics. He was a great supporter of the Red Cross, a member of the Lions Club, the Jaycees and a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, where he faithfully served on the board. Also, he served as the Chairman of the Estill School Board for many years. In addition to his many civic activities, he was an avid tennis player and quail hunter. He was a member of several bridge clubs, the Estill Supper Club and the Gamecock Club. Mr. and Mrs. Hanna never missed the homecoming dance at USC as they both loved dancing. They danced every opportunity they had, even in their home. He is survived by his three children, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren: Ann Hanna Stokes (Bobby) and their daughters, Hanna Stokes Green (Corrin) and Jessica Stokes Benson (Robert): Edith Hanna Youmans (Don-Deceased) and children Dr. Donald Harrison Youmans (Kandace) and Martha Tinsley Youmans: Joseph Harrison Hanna, Jr. (Sara) and sons Joseph Harrison Hanna, III and John Mitchell Hanna. Great grandchildren are Joseph Corrin Green, Jr., Samuel Lee Green: Charlotte Ann Benson, Robert Porter Benson, Jr and Tinsley Stokes Benson: Sadie Brooks Youmans and Emerson Lee Youmans. He is also survived by his sister, Lillian Hanna Daley (Bernie), many loving nieces, nephews and numerous close and devoted friends. He was predeceased by his brother Leslie Hugh Hanna and sister Charlotte Hanna Trotter. The Hanna family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Pat Jarrell and Shelly Smith for their years of service caring for “Mr. Harry”.
