WEST COLUMBIA — Funeral service for Kathryn Garnett Bailey, 79, will be held noon Friday, August 22, 2008, at Park Street Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. Dr. Samuel Catoe. Interment will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends and visitors from 11 a.m. until 12 p.m. Friday prior to service at the church. Memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church Building Fund or Music Program, 2204 Park St., Columbia, SC 29202. Thompson Funeral Home of West Columbia is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Bailey died Tuesday, August 19, 2008. Born in Clarendon County, SC, she was a daughter of the late J.L. Garnett and Beulah Thigpen Garnett. She was retired from the S.C. Juvenile Justice Department; she was a member of Park Street Baptist Church, where she was also a member of the Love Class Sunday School Class, the choir and the Women on Missions. Surviving are her husband, Roland Bailey of West Columbia; son, Tim Bailey and his wife, Marguerite of Blythewood; daughter, Gayle Bailey of West Columbia; three grandchildren, Cristina and Candace Casillo and Brandon Bailey of Blythewood; five sisters, Elizabeth Perkins of Mt. Pleasant, Earldine Brown of Paxville, Evelyn Karoffa of Morrow, GA, Margaret Kelly of Sumter and Ruth Chambers of Canadys; six brothers, Joseph Garnett of Charleston, T.W. “Dock” Garnett of Atlanta, GA, Milton Garnett of Florence, Dargan Garnett of New Port News, VA, Raymond Garnett of Hartsville and Jackie Garnett of Sumter. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses on the Oncology floor at Palmetto Health Richland for their extraordinary care of Mrs. Bailey during her illness.
