| HIST | Henry Alston Sr. Henry Alston Sr., 87, died Nov. 2, 2012, at Sumter Health and Rehabilitation. Born in Sumter County, he was a son of the late James and Aline Singleton Alston. Henry was employed with Sloan Construction Co. for more than 40 years, until his retirement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, three sisters and two brothers. Mr. Alston is survived by five children, Ruby (Bobby) Mayes, Betty Alston, Lillie Alston, Henry Alston and William Alston; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Willow Grove AME Church, 7125 Sumter Landing Road, Horatio, with the Rev. Wallace Preston officiating. Interment will follow at Willow Grove AME Church cemetery. The public may view from 1 to 5 p.m. today at Palmer Memorial Chapel, 304 S. Main St., Sumter.
