Walter T. Clarke LEXINGTON - A memorial service for Walter Thomas Clarke will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The Rev. Ralph Schneck will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. Mr. Clarke died Friday, December 6, 2013, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease. Born in Savannah, GA, March 29, 1934, he was the son of the late Reginald Causey Clarke and the late Mildred Brazzell Remion. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic during the Korean War. He received a business degree from Columbia Commercial College. Mr. Clarke retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation in January 2006. He was honored as SCDOT Employee of the Year, Highway Maintenance Division, for 1992. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lexington, SC. Surviving are his wife of 39 years, Barbara Ogburn Clarke; daughter, Sharlene DeLoach of Claxton, GA; daughter, Katrina (Herb) Singleton of Lugoff, SC; and son, Brantley W. Clarke of Lexington, SC. He is also survived by three grandchildren, Richard Sapp, Lee Rucker and Ely Engle; and sister, Patricia (Robert) Briley. The family would like to express appreciation to the staff of Lexington Medical Center Extended Care and Tri County Hospice for their care and support during the last few months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, P.O. Box 4777, NY, NY 10163-4777.
