- The Ptomey Family of Alabama and Watters and Related Families " Hugh McKee was one of the leaders, if not the leader, of probably the largest caravan ever to come from Virginia into Alabama. They came to the western part of Butler County, Al in the early 1800's. the caravan brought household furniture, supplies, animals, slaves, etc.. Data on the caravan given to David Adams III, by his uncle, Joseph Thomas Adams about 1948. he said that the bestas he remembered he had read of this caravan trip in the Greenville, Al Advocate newspapers many years ago Hugh McKee in buried in Monterey Cemetery, located near the Wilcox County line, in Butler County Al. His headstone reads "Hugh McKee , born Botetourt County, Virginia. Born February 9, 1801, Died September 5, 1863."
