Born June 6, 1928, he was the son of the late George William Polin and the late Jessie Wertz Polin Guess. He owned and operated Polin's Grocery for 26 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elloree where he served as deacon for 25 years. He was a member of the Elloree Volunteer Fire Department for 56 years, serving as treasurer for 10 years, was a member of the Jaycees for 12 years, was a member of the American Legion for 33 years, and was a member of the Knights of Phythias for 63 years, serving as their treasurer since 1980. He is survived by his wife Betty of 59 years; three daughters, Donna Thames of Manning, Sandra Clossman (Dan) of Elloree, Cindy Polin of Santee; a very special niece, Kristie McGee Anderson (Russell) of Elloree; five grandchildren, Seth Clossman (Gabi), Aaron Clossman (Megan), Luke Clossman, Aidan Anderson and Emma Anderson; two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Clossman and James Clossman; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Willie Lee Butler, Thelma Felkel, Mildred Rush; three brothers, Edward Polin, Charles Polin, Joseph Brooks Polin; and son-in-law Andy Thames. A Celebration Service will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017, at First Baptist Church of Elloree, with the Rev. Dr. Bryan Fields officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church of Elloree and at other times at the residence, 350 Stack Avenue, Elloree. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Seth Clossman, Aaron Clossman, Luke Clossman, Aidan Anderson and nephews, Emory Rush and Marshall Polin. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Elloree Fire Department and the Knights of Pythias. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Elloree, PO Box 387, Elloree, SC.
