| HIST | MILDRED H. HAWTHORNE Posted Friday, December 8, 2017 2:00 am Mildred Hamby Hawthorne, 91, widow of Andrew C. Hawthorne Jr., died on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, at McElveen Manor. Born in Greenville, she was a daughter of the late Charles Smith Hamby and Mary Jane Garrett Hamby. Mrs. Hawthorne was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church and was a retired administrative assistant with Santee Print Works. Surviving are two daughters, Becky Thompson and husband, Robert, of Sumter and Belle Parker and husband, Farris, of Greenwood; one brother, John V. Hamby of Fort Mill; four grandchildren, Charlie Thompson and wife, Caroline, Evan Thompson, Trey Parker, and Andy Parker and wife, Kim; and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Hamby and Robert Hamby; and one sister, Betty Barbary. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Greenwood with the Rev. Stuart Mizelle officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. today at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home and other times at the home of her daughter, 701 White Pine Way, and also following the graveside service at the home of her grandson, Andy and Kim Parker, 110 Kinkade Drive, Greenwood, SC 29649.
