Born on Aug. 3, 1951, in Sumter, he was a son of William Walter "Walt" Wheeler Sr. and Janet Olsen Wheeler. Mr. Wheeler was a Mason and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sumter. He retired from the S.C. Forestry Commission. Survivors include his parents of Sumter; two children, William Walter "Will" Wheeler III (Keyes) of Bishopville and Ashleigh Newsome (Will) of Hartsville; four grandchildren, Maddie Wheeler, Jack Wheeler, Connor Newsome and Elliott Newsome; a brother, Richard D. Wheeler (Dani) of Sumter; and a nephew, Kenton Wheeler. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Suzanne Walker officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
