  HIST	Soon after his marriage to Susannah , he purchased a plantation in Sumter District, South Carolina of about 415 acres. To this was added 588 acres in 1804 and 1,000 acres in 1805 by special grant from the State of South Carolina.  [3]
  Occupation	carpenter, planter, and was appointed by Thomas Jefferson, in 1803, as Surveyor of Port of Charleston, South Carolina. He was largely responsible as the head surveyor for the Port of Charleston.  [3]
