  HIST	of Sumter, South Carolina Virginia C. Stafford Virginia C. Stafford, 87, widow of George W. Stafford Jr., died Wednesday, May 25, 2011, at Tuomey Regional Medical Center. Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Allen B. and Mary Alice Kolb Cubbage. Mrs. Stafford was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and the Alice Andrews Bible Class. She was formerly employed by Capitol Department Store. Surviving are one daughter, Margaret Stafford Laney and husband, Frank, of Camden; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Georgianna Stafford Jewell; two brothers, James Cubbage and Rudolph Cubbage; and four sisters, Inez Mathis, Margaret Strange, Onie Stack and Hattie Butt. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Bethel United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.
