MIRIAM JEANNE M. BAKER
DAMASCUS, Va. -- Miriam Jeanne Mitchell Baker, 68, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at her residence with her family by her side.
Born in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late Talmadge Watford Mitchell and Felicia Heckel Mitchell. Mrs. Baker was an accountant and had worked for Food Country and Food City for numerous years. She belonged to the Church of the Nazarene.
Survivors include her husband, John D. Baker of Damascus; a daughter, Joy Allen of Damascus; a son, John D. Baker II (Teresa) of Damascus; five very special grandchildren, Ethan Allen, Gavin Allen, Tristan Allen, Carson Allen and Hannah Prater; a very special great-grandchild, Braxton Prater; her twin sister, Jeanette Hoskins of Erin, Tenn.; sister, Virginia Copeland (Warren) of Catlett, Va.; a sister-in-law, Audrey Mitchell of Abingdon, Va.; five brothers, the Rev. T.W. Mitchell Jr. (Alice) and Billy Mitchell, both of Sumter, Ralph Mitchell (Audrey) of Edgewood, Texas, the Rev. Dr. Robert Mitchell (Emmaline) and Daniel Mitchell, both of Erin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, Talmadge Blaine Baker; two sisters, Annette Mitchell and Meddie Barwick; and two brothers, John Mitchell and Richard Mitchell.
A celebration of life was held at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Frost Funeral Home chapel in Abingdon. The Rev. John Trasher officiated.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in the Sumter Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Robert Mitchell and the Rev. T.W. Mitchell officiating.

The family would like to thank the Home Nursing Service of Southwest Virginia, Keri Long and staff at Hometown Hospice, Dr. Swank and Dr. Prill for the caring and love shown to Miriam and the family.
