Clements Jr. TIMMONSVILLE Edgar Lewis Clements, Jr. 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, in McLeod Hospice House after an extended illness. Funeral service will be Friday, October 3, 2014 at Trinity Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Florence, at noon. Visitation will be Thursday from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Layton-Anderson Funeral Home, Florence, and other times at the family residence. Mr. Clements was born in Sumter County, a son of the late Edgar Lewis, Sr. and Mamie Dukes Clements. He grew up in Lynchburg, SC, and played American Legion Baseball with the Sumter P-15s. He attended Clemson A&M and Newberry Colleges. In 1951, Edgar began working for Atlantic Coast Line Railroad, continued with Seaboard Coast Line and ultimately retired as a conductor with CSX Railroad. After retiring, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their athletic events. He was one of The King's Academy Lions biggest supporters and cheerleaders. Edgars is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Gwendolyn "Gwen" Weatherly Clements, Timmonsville, along with his children, Edgar L. "Ed" Clements, III, Florence, and Mamie Rose "Meme" (Ralph) McCampbell, Columbia; sisters, Louise Holden, Columbia, Betty Carmichael, Summerville, four grandchildren, Elizabeth Long, Angela (Angus) Maclean, Zachary Clements, Benjamin Clements and a great-granddaughter, Courtney Long; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, George Clements and Robert Clements, two sisters, Anne Clements and Lottie Clements Cordray.
