| HIST | of Fort Worth, Texas Date Published: January 18, 2009 OSCAR GEDDINGS FORT WORTH, TEX. -- Oscar Geddings, 80, a retired U.S. Air Force senior master sergeant, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2009, surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy illness. Oscar was born Oct.1, 1928, in Sumter County, to Ollie and Ola Geddings. He graduated from Edmunds High School in Sumter in 1945. Oscar proudly dedicated his life to our armed services. He devoted a combined 27 years serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force. He attended numerous military training schools and the NCO Academy in Colorado. He received medals for World War II, Korea and Vietnam. Following his retirement from the service, he worked for a short time at Stauffer Chemical Co. and then spent 15 years building fighter aircraft for Lockheed Martin, where he retired in 1994. He belonged to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers. He received an associate degree from Tarrant County Junior College after retiring from the military. Oscar gladly supported the Crenshaw family, selling tickets every Saturday night for 10 years at 281 Speedway in Stephenville. Oscar attended the Baptist church and the Protestant chapel while in the service. He was an active member of First Baptist Church in Warner Robbins, Ga. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Lila Geddings; daughters, Kathi Hakes and husband, Paul E. Jr., Christine Burcham, Robin Geddings, Allison Walker and husband, Bobby, and Lynn Crenshaw and husband, David; grandchildren, Heather Burcham, Justin Hakes, Ashleigh Hakes and Emily Crenshaw; and sisters, Wilma Barkley, Alleen Geddings, Christina Geddings and Essie Osteen. Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Arlington Funeral Home chapel. Interment was in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.
