WRAY GASTONIA, N.C. -- Dorothea Bultman Wray, 85, formerly of McArver Street, of 1351 Robinwood Road, Gastonia, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at her residence. She was born and raised in Sumter, a daughter of the late Deuward George Frederick Bultman and Dorothy Phelps Bultman. She was a graduate of the Women's College of the University of North Carolina, now known as UNC-Greensboro, and attended Harvard School of Medicine, where she received her graduate degree as a physical therapist. After graduation, she was first employed by the Orthopedic Hospital in Gastonia. She met her late beloved husband while working in Gastonia. She worked at Gaston Memorial Hospital for many years thereafter, serving as the only physical therapist at the old location, and worked as head of physical therapy after moving into the new facility. She received many awards and retired at age 62. She was a faithful member of Temple Emanuel, Gastonia, where she remained active in the Temple Sisterhood. She loved gardening, and enjoyed her time with the Four Seasons Garden Club before residing at Covenant Village. She cherished spending time with her family more than anything else. She was always active as a community participant, and volunteered at Crisis Assistance Ministry only a few days ago. Visitation will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Temple Emanuel with Readers William Gross and Hardin Rubin. Graveside service will be private. Survivors include a son, Joseph S. Wray III of Columbia; a daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy W. and Dr. Peter Lodge of Gastonia; granddaughters, Gwyneth Lodge of Atlanta, Ga., and Claire Lodge of Washington, D.C.; brothers and sisters-in-law, Deuward and Helen Bultman of Sumter and Phelps and Betsy Bultman of Columbia; a dearly loved cousin, Dr. Bob Wilson of Palm Springs, Calif.; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Joe S. Wray Jr. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Crisis Assistance Ministry, 805 W. Airline Ave., Gastonia, NC 28052; Temple Emanuel, 320 S.
