| HIST | Source gives Edwin b. 1836 and Camilla b. abt 1836 a daughter named Camilla Plowden who married J. Alton Eadon 1904-1965, however that makes them 72 years old at the death of her birth. Camilla’s obituary gives her parents as Miles Hampton And Sallie Williford Plowden. I am moving her to Edwin’s brother- Miles Dickey Plowden who married Camilla White, son- Miles Hampton Plowden b. 1859. Hi Jackie, There are several things about Miles Dickey Plowden that has me wondering. First, he is born in the same year as Edwin Dickey Plowden. Twins maybe? Or, same person maybe? Second, in the 1850 census for Sumter County it shows an Edwin D. (age 14) living with his parents, Miles H. and Martha L.; but there is no Miles D. From a genealogy stand point, being twins, brothers, or the same person changes nothing in the rest of the tree, prior or since. Only a first name. The census, to me, is the strongest evidence that the two are in fact one, with the name Edwin. Given that Edwin's father is Miles and his son is Miles, it's possible someone mistakenly put a Miles in the middle. But since his father was Miles H. and his son is Miles H., if he was Miles Dickey Plowden then I'd expect he name his son MDP Jr. instead he names one after his father, and it appears one after himself, since the second son was named Edwin Dickey Plowden Jr. What do we know with 100% certainty. Miles Hampton Plowden and Martha Lenoir had one or two boys in 1836. In 1850 an Edwin D. Plowden, age 14, was living at home with Miles H. and Martha L. No Miles D. Edwin Dickey Plowden had been married to an "M.C." in 1860 census Edwin Dickey Plowden died in the summer of 1861 in the Civil War. Margaret Camilla White had been married to a "Plowden" and had two boys by him, Miles Hampton and Edwin Dickey Jr. just prior to Edwin Dickey Plowden's death. No Plowden offspring are born after Edwin's death. It seems to me that the marriage listed in the 1860 census (which I haven't seen) to "M. C." is Margaret Camilla. Hope this is food for thought and not just a jumble. Cheers, Clyde See More from Jacqueline Kay Hughes Hi Jackie, I did some poking around and found the 1860 census mentioned. I clipped and image of the bottom of page 110 and the top of 111. It shows E. D. Plowden (24) living with M. C. Plowden (19) and a Miles H. Jr. 11 months. It all fits. [3, 4] | |
