| HIST | Date Published: December 13, 2008 ROBERT R. DuRANT III MURRELLS INLET -- Robert Rees DuRant III, 62, died Dec. 11, 2008, at his family farm in Manning. He was a son of the late Robert Rees Jr. and Eleanor Stroman DuRant of Manning. He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved boykin spaniel, Jumbo. A graduate of Manning High School and Clemson University, he had a lifelong career in banking and was a member of South Carolina Bankers Association. As an avid outdoorsman and conservationist, he served as state chairman of Ducks Unlimited for five years and was a life sponsor. He was a founding member of Anderson Hunt Club and president of Cooter Point Investment Club. He served as past president of the Chicora Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. Mr. DuRant also served as vice-chairman of the Horry-Georgetown Technical College Foundation. He was a member of Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, where he was chairman of the finance committee. He is survived by his wife, Tracy Gramling DuRant; two boykin spaniels, Lady and Jasmin; his son, Dr. Robert Rees DuRant IV and his wife, Dr. Farrow Counts, of New Orleans, La.; his daughter, Ramona DuRant Jacocks and her husband, Dr. Mitchell Jacocks, of Sumter; four grandchildren, Harriett Elizabeth DuRant, Mitchell Wells Jacocks, Cantey Mason Jacocks and Preston Thomas Jacocks; his sister, Margaret Jackson and her husband, Carl, of Manning; a niece, Peggie Jackson Sorrell and her husband, the Rev. Michael Sorrell, of Great Falls; a nephew, Carl Jackson Jr. of Manning; and two great-nephews, William and Robert Sorrell. Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at Belin Memorial United Methodist Church, conducted by the Rev. Harold Lewis. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. in the Manning Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives following the church service at Inlet Affairs in Murrells Inlet and following the committal service at Lakewood Plantation in Manning. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Cypress Foundation of Clarendon Memorial Hospital, P.O. Box 550, Manning, SC 29102 or the Robert R.
