Born in Greenville, he was a son of Robert John Kolb Sr. and Mary Dianne Dunn Kolb. He was a member of Harmony Church and was a professor at Morris College. He also dedicated much of his time to kidney disease research. He was a diehard Clemson Tiger fan. He served as a "Big Brother" while living in Boston. Survivors include his parents of Sumter; a sister, Lisa K. Bean (Patrick) of Manning; a niece, Sara Herbert of Manning; a nephew, Andrew Herbert of Sumter; an uncle, William "Billy" Kolb (Jane) of Lake Wylie; an aunt, Beverly Chote of Sumter; and longtime friend, Tim Herbert of Sumter. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. today at Harmony Church with Pastor Drew Choate officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today at Harmony Church and other times at the home. Posted Tuesday, December 17, 2019 5:00 am Robert "Bobby" John Kolb Sr., 70, husband of Mary Dianne Dunn Kolb, died on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2019, at Blue Ridge Healthcare of Sumter. Born on July 18, 1949, in Sumter, he was a son of the late William Calvin Kolb and Frances Eargle Kolb. He was a member of Harmony Church. He was an auto-mechanics instructor at Central Carolina Technical College. Survivors include his wife of 51 years; a daughter, Lisa K. Bean (Patrick) of Sumter; a granddaughter, Sara Herbert (Austin); a grandson, Andrew Herbert; a great-granddaughter, Willow Herbert; a brother, William "Billy" Kolb (Jane) of Lake Wylie; and a sister, Beverly Choat of Sumter. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert "Robbie" J. Kolb Jr.; and a sister, Brenda L. Kolb. A funeral service will be held at noon on Wednesday at Harmony Church with the Rev. Drew Choate and the Rev. Dan Keaton officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be Bobby Richardson, Melvin Mixon, Don Bolinger, Tim Herbert, Tommy Stack and Glenn Choat. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Harmony Church and other times at the home, 6 Radcliff Drive.
